Frequently Asked Questions
1. What will my dog learn during the Board & Train program?
Most programs cover structured obedience (sit, down, place, recall, leash walking), manners (no jumping, door manners, crate training), and addressing specific issues like reactivity or anxiety. Advanced programs may include remote collar training, off-leash control, and behavior modification for aggression.
2. How long does my dog need to stay?
It depends on your goals and your dog’s needs. Puppies or minor issues may benefit from 2 weeks. Basic obedience and reliability around distractions often require 3–4 weeks. More advanced programs, including aggression or off-leash control, may take 6–8 weeks.
3. Will the training “stick” once my dog comes home?
Yes—if owners follow through. The trainer provides transition lessons and clear instructions so the dog’s new skills transfer to your home. Consistency is key: your dog needs the same structure, rules, and follow-up practice.
4. Can I visit or check on my dog during training?
For the most part, yes! I encourage owners to schedule weekly training sessions so we can focus on your handling skills and help you learn how to maintain your dog’s progress. Training is only half about the dog—the other half is teaching the owner.
That said, some dogs benefit from a short “hard reset” and may need more time away from their owners in the beginning to build consistency and focus. In those cases, I’ll guide you on the best timing for visits to support your dog’s success.
5. What should I bring when dropping off my dog?
Please bring enough of your dog’s regular food to last the entire program, plus a little extra just in case. Some dogs may experience appetite changes, so an appetite enhancer can be helpful.
Leashes and training equipment are not required—we’ll provide what’s needed during training. Bedding, blankets, and toys are generally not necessary, though in certain cases we may recommend bringing something familiar from home.
